These aren't hard and fast goals, but they are part of a long term strategy of mine. I've composed an entire schedule and outline. Although i won't be sharing dates i figured i'd post the updates as they come and development cycle i'm currently working toward.

Short term (before the end of the month)

  • Optimized search engine replacement (sphinx) - Done!
  • Reflow of user profiles and clean up formatting - Done!
  • Continue to enhance games database search function and listing - In Progress
  • Pop up highlights - New Feature In Progress

Mid term (before the end of July)

  • Tie in games database with calendar events
  • Further enhance chat room emotes
  • Portal page revamp including Full blog/article posts
  • Minimal working RSVP system for events
  • Integrate user management for titles owned eliminating games listing threads

Long term (before the end of the year)

  • Integrate users, games and events completely
  • New server hardware purchase and transition

I am my wits end at the moment due to 2 things:

1 comcast is having major issues, although i expect these to get resolved eventually, right now i'm pretty ticked

2 is the server and site backups are continuing to fail. any *fix* for the long term is going to require a significant investment and some weekend downtime to get settled.

Although our current box is handling things nominally, between the 3rd failing power supply, a blown RAM chip and now a network card failure, i've come to the conclusion the best possible solution is to just get something newer as i'm spending more time and money fixing failures then i am getting a site upgrades done.

OK so we need to start coming up with some fund raising ideas - it seems we need to raise $1k a.s.a.p.

forget the 1k mart let's just do it right the first time and raise 5k and get a pimp box for the server so we dont have to upgrade for along time. While we are at it get a permanent rack in a data center somewhere and get'er done!

In the long run a dedicated box would be way more than i can afford. We usually far exceed the bandwidth cap not to mention it's about 300 bucks a month. 5k to drop on a server for even having 1M hits a day is exuberant this days. This box has gone for almost 2 years at around 600 bucks initial cost, minus any of the software and hardware upgrades over that time. I'd be hard pressed to find a dedicated server with 70mbs down and 15 up that would do over 3gig a month for around 150 bucks. Even if i put in an extra 100 for a new box each month, and bought a new server once a year, it'd still be less than a dedicated machine in a data center.
