Who told you!!! Great, now I have to kick them all out of the basement. Expect to hear 8-bit bleeps from now on...
Actually, I use an ancient G4 Mac tower stuffed with RAM, three HDD's, and a external HDD on occasion. (I'm in dire need of an upgrade lol!) My main sequencer that I use is Logic Pro, but I also use another program called Reason from time to time. I tend to use it more as a sketch pad if I don't feel like booting into Logic. It's not as elaborate as sequencers like Logic, but you can still produce good tracks with it. Especially if you're into electronica. Sometimes I wake up with a melody in my head, and I need something quick to start up and make a record of it before it's lost.
Just about all the samples I use are from EastWest/Quantum Link (EWQL) Symphony Orchestra. They are the best sounding samples I've heard and was fortunate enough to be part of a group buy when I first got it. Normally, it goes for almost 1k, but I was able to get it for about half that. There's still plenty to have to understand in order to make them sound good, though. It's an ongoing learning process. Not to mention trying to record, produce, mix, and master. (which is a whole other art in itself) I hear some of the older stuff I've done and cringe. Like forgetting that the person playing wind instruments might like to breathe every now and again! Right now, I'm balancing between redoing some of my older stuff while I work on new pieces.
So Far Above was originally done in Reason sometime in 04/05. I was able to get it sounding good for what it was used to create it, but it was one of the pieces I wanted to update once I got these samples.
I also use EWQL Stormdrum, which is a collection of percussive instruments and electronic "noises". Those take up more memory than the orchestral samples, so my hands are kind of tied when it comes to using them.
For the choral elements, I use EWQL Symphonic Choirs, and that program is a nothing short of a bitch to use. lol! For one, with Logic, you have to run it as two separate programs; the plugin, and the application where you type in what you want sung. Whereas others, you can run it all as one plugin. It's the only thing that makes me look into using other sequencers. Between the complexity of it, and my system limitations, I don't use it as much as I'd like. That piece
Here and Now, is the most intricate use of it so far. I wanted to use more of it in that piece, but it was frustrating just getting what I had to sound close to what I wanted. I'll probably attack it again at a later time. Hopefully, with a newer system!
And I'd be honored to be on your playlist!
